The scope of research activity in the Department of Economics is related to the following research areas:

1) Macro and microeconomic determinants of sustainable development

Research performed in the Department of Economics and Economic Policy in Agribusiness covers a wide range of scientific problems, such as:

1) Economic policy and agri-food policy

  • Macroeconomic conditions for the development of the agri-food sector,
  • Fiscal policy and development of the agri-food sector,
  • Monetary policy and development of the agri-food sector,
  • The development of agribusiness as a subsystem of the national economy in Poland and the EU,
  • Competitiveness of the Polish agri-food sector,
  • The impact of the Common Agricultural Policy measures on the development of agriculture and rural areas,

2) Economic geography, regional policy and rural development policy

Department of Finance and Accounting

Research in the Department of Finance and Accounting focuses on four broad areas:

1) Use of econometric, statistical, taxonomic and decision-making methods for evaluation, modelling and causal identification of such socio-economic issues as

  • social, economic and financial situation of local administrative units,
  • sustainable development of the units,
  • living standards and quality of life of their inhabitants,
  • financial situation of households categorized by specified criteria,
  • income inequality of households and local administrative units,
  • economic activity of the rural population.

2) Economic and financial condition of farms, food industry operators and banks within the economic environment in Poland as compared to other EU countries

  • cross sectional assessment of economic and financial condition of farms in Poland and other EU countries,
  • analysis of farmers income in the context of European integration and globalization,
  • analysis of financial security of food industry operators,
  • evaluation of the financial standing of cooperative banks.

3) Market instruments of price stabilization and risk management in agriculture, including

  • exploration of micro- and macroeconomic factors that ensure viability of derivatives in agriculture,
  • financial analysis and economic risk assessment in farming and agricultural processing operations,
  • evaluation of price risk level in agriculture,
  • identification of methods and techniques used in agriculture to protect against the risk of adverse price changes,
  • organization and functioning of market institutions that secure prices of goods in future transactions, i.e. commodity exchanges, collective warehouses.

4) Valuation of biological assets in agriculture and agricultural operations

  • appraisal of biological assets at historical cost and fair value,
  • pricing of non-commodity products in agriculture.
